We were the couple that slow danced in the rain;
You were the man that held me through my pain;
You were my other half, my better half;
A perfect man frozen in a photograph;
I keep you in my pocket for stormy days like these;
So you can still be by my side as I chase the breeze;
I keep you in my pocket, to keep you close to home;
Despite how far away your body and heart may roam;
So I’ll keep going back to the place you left;
Although you’re gone, a victim of theft;
And I’ll sit there alone watching the night sky;
Until I again see your shadow pass by;
You’d sit next to me though not really there;
You’d brush a shadow finger through my hair;
I’ll tell you my secret about what the people say;
I’ll tell you how they say to stop wasting night and day;
How they say to give up because you’re long gone;
How they remind me you’re dead telling me to move on;
But I still see your shadow sitting here beneath the trees;
I still hear your voice speaking over the night breeze;
I can still feel you here as if you hadn’t gone;
I can still feel you here watching night turn to dawn;
Sitting by my side like you would every night;
As the sky would change and emerge a new light;
But as the sun rains down your shadow disappears;
And the sound of your voice leaves from my ears;
Now again you’re gone and for a bit I’m left alone;
Until away with you my shadow can be blown
this one was amazing! You definitely captured the feelings of loss and heartbreak well. I love how this had the theme of a duet, two shadows dancing in the light. It added another layer to what you were feeling and expressing when you wrote this. Well done 👍🏻
